Card Reveal: The Numinous new version!
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 30, 2021 at 11:37:36 PM

Hi everyone!

One of the things promised in the campaign is that I would be creating a new version of The Numinous card (a 79th extra card added to the deck) for this edition. Well, here it is!! (The logo watermarks will not be on the final card, of course.)

The Numinous: a card for all the magical experiences you have no words for

It's not that I didn't like the original one, but while brainstorming ways to make this edition unique, I felt it'd be an easy and fun thing to do!

Someone messaged me a while ago to ask if they'd be able to get an additional copy of this card to replace in earlier versions of the deck, and the answer is unfortunately no. For one, the card finish is different and there's no gilding on the new deck, so it would stand out from the rest of the older cards. Two, part of the point to me personally in making changes like this is to create a difference between editions. I absolutely get why you would want to put the new version of the card in an older deck, but in the end it's just not the way I want to release my work. I hope whichever edition you have, you can enjoy the version of this card it contains! <3

EDIT: Also, the original painting for this card is available if you back at the tier for original art :)

Other News

As far as funding is going, I'm incredibly stoked that we've now passed $30,000! This campaign is now my highest funding Kickstarter, the former being the original campaign for this deck at around $27.7k. What I've decided to do is order 3000 copies of the deck (the max I can fit in my apartment) and use any remaining funds (after shipping costs, fees, taxes, other merch for the Kickstarter, etc) towards future printing of my work. I've done this before, as last year I used funds from the Threadbound Oracle campaign to print the Uncertain Oracle.

This time, it should enable me to reprint The Thread That Binds and print its prequel, The Flame That Sings, when the latter comes out next year! It would have been really difficult to fundraise for the novels on their own (the first one was paid for alongside the Threadbound Oracle, since they go together), so knowing I will be able to do that with your support is amazing.

Past that, any funds will go to (re)printing decks. Yay! It seems a little arrogant to assume the campaign will earn that much, but there's still 17 days to go and it just keeps going up. Thank you so much again and again for making my dreams possible!

The Thread That Binds novel available as add on!
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 23, 2021 at 12:44:26 AM

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to let you all know that you can now add The Thread That Binds paperback or ebook edition to your pledge as an add on! I believe Kickstarter should let you edit your pledge if you'd like to throw one in there :)

The Thread That Binds is a queer adult fantasy novel that accompanies the Threadbound Oracle. I created the deck for one of the main characters to use, and the characters appear on the real life version of the deck, as well! It's very meta the way it circles around, haha.

About the book:

The books are restless.

At the Eternal Library, books are more than the paper, ink, and thread they're made from--they're full of spirits. Only a handful of people will ever be invited to the Bindery to learn the craft of Illumination: the magical creation of intricate illustrated manuscripts, bound with a secret that will make them last forever.

Tabby is a dreamwalker, a witch who escapes into the stories of sleep to avoid a birth family that's never loved em enough. Amane is a cartomancer, a medium who speaks for the Unseen, but doesn’t know how to speak her own needs. Rhiannon is a psychic, an archivist who can See into the past, but only has eyes on the future.

Their stories intertwine as they discover the secrets of Illumination, the Library's archives, and those of their mentors--the three of whom are competing to be the next Head Librarian, the Speaker for all the books. How do you know who's truly worth being part of your family? Sometimes we must forge connections in order to heal; other times, those bonds must be broken.

Some but not all the things you will find inside:

  • ~*FEELINGS*~
  • Found- and bio-family dynamics
  • Entirely queer cast of characters
  • Multiple ace & aro-spec characters, including an aroace narrator
  • Queer is the norm in society
  • Society without gender that's NOT androgynous! Two own-voices agender narrators!
  • Societies with gender, too!
  • Magic bookbinding
  • Dreamwalking
  • Grumpy mentor with a heart of gold
  • Magic cell phones and other modern tech
  • Pining for your coworker
  • Getting new "adoptive parents" as an adult
  • Main characters in a long term queerplatonic relationship
  • Art/writing/craft magic
  • Characters who use the pronouns e/em/eir

You can read a list of content warnings here.

If you'd rather read it now, you can find it in my shop as well as on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo. Here's the Goodreads link for good measure. But I always want to give people the opportunity to combine shipping, so if you want to slap a paperback in your pledge, go for it. I've also made the paperback $15 as an add-on, while it's $20 in my shop and on B&N, so yay discount! <3 Additional shipping is $10 for outside the US and free inside the US.

Stretch Goals + Podcast appearance!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Mar 21, 2021 at 12:32:28 AM

Hi everyone! It's only been a few days, and already the campaign has reached enough funding for me to increase my order of 1000 Numinous Tarot decks to 2000 in this print run! Wow!! The $13,500 goal was hit in the first 9 hours, the fastest of any of my campaigns, and I can't tell you how amazed and grateful I feel for all the support.

So, what's next? Right now I'm contemplating how I might fit 3000 decks into my apartment, and in a moment I'll email my printer contact to ask for a quote on a print run of that size. While other decks might add fancy gilding or whatnot with stretch goals and that's wonderful, personally I'd rather use extra funds to ensure I can keep selling the deck without another Kickstarter for as long as possible.

That said, there's still 29 days left in the campaign, which suggests it could reach funding levels I haven't even considered before. I'll definitely be throwing in some free little extras for everyone who's backed, perhaps some new postcard prints or a pin or something like that! I'll have to give it all some good thought, and get back to you when I've settled on some ideas.

Back in January, I was honored to join Gem Kennedy of the Queers & Co. podcast for an interview about my work, and it went live today! If you'd like to hear us chat about storytelling for healing, Tarot for activism, and gender as a color wheel instead of a straight line, you can check it out here or search for it on your favorite podcast hosting platform, like Spotify or iTunes.

Again, thank you SO MUCH for all your support! I can't wait to get these decks in your hands! <3
